Nature Series

Our Nature Series is back for 2026!!

UTREC is proud to host a six event nature series in 2026 to be presented by Tom Sheppard, Chief Park Naturalist of the Hunterdon County Division of Parks and Recreation. These are free, informative lectures, nature walks and presentations for ages 6 and up.  There is limited space and registration is required for all attending (children/adults). Once a session is full, it will be closed (no waitlist).

Walk Around Hoffman Park – Bird Walk – 5/26 from 5-6pm @ Hoffman Park – with registration opening 5/11!

Join us for our new Hoffman Park walking series for a fly time exploring native birds! Kids will explore the great outdoors, winging their way through the park as they discover the fascinating world of local birds. This beak-tacular adventure will have every little nature lover soaring as they learn about the feathered friends that call our park home!

Insect Field Study – 6/30 from 5-6pm at Hoffman Park

Join us for our new Hoffman Park series for a bee-yond fun Insect Field Study! Kids will explore the great outdoors, bugging out as they walk around and discover the fascinating world of insects. This creepy crawly adventure will make every little nature lover feel fly as they learn about the tiny creatures that call the our local park home!

Parent & Kid Fishing Pond Study – 9/29 from 5-6pm at Hoffman Park

Reel in some fin-tastic fun at our Parent & Kid Fishing Field Study, where you’ll get hooked on the great outdoors together! Cast off into an adventure as you learn the basics of fishing, explore local waters, and net some awesome skills along the way. Parents, you’ll be the reel MVPs—helping kids bait hooks and tackle the tricky parts—so everyone can have a smooth day on the water. It’s o-fish-ally the perfect chance to bond, learn, and maybe even catch a whopper of a memory!

Jurassic NJ Presentation – 10/27 from 5-6pm at the Union Township Municipal Building

Join us for a dino-mite time at our Jurassic NJ Presentation, where Garden State history gets a prehistoric twist! Unearth the story of the very first dinosaur discovery in the U.S. right here in New Jersey, and dig into what our local landscapes looked like millions of years ago. Through a roar-some slideshow, you’ll explore ancient environments and meet the creatures that once ruled them. It’s going to be tricera-tops tier learning—no bones about it!

Reptiles Alive: Turtles! – 11/24 from 5-6pm at the Union Township Municipal Building

Join us for a turtley awesome time at our Reptiles Alive class, where you’ll get to shell-abrate these amazing creatures up close! Learn fascinating facts and discover the world of turtles, all while enjoying hands-on fun with live turtles. It’s going to be a shell-mazing experience for nature lover!

How do I register?

We have a rolling registration for each of these Nature Series programs. Registration will open approximately 3 weeks in advance of the class, and be filled on a first come, first serve basis.

Go to: https://register.communitypass.net/reg/index.cfm

Type in “Union Township Hampton NJ, NJ” for organization and select it from the drop down, make an account if needed, and then sign up as warranted. Once logged in/account made, look for the orange “register now” button. Click it and select the weeks you’re interested in and go from there.
