Nature Series

Our Nature Series will be back for 2025!!

UTREC is proud to host a six event nature series in 2025 to be presented by Tom Sheppard, Chief Park Naturalist of the Hunterdon County Division of Parks and Recreation. These are free, informative lectures and presentations for ages 6 and up.  There is limited space and registration is required for all attending (children/adults). Once a session is full, it will be closed. No waitlist. Details coming soon for the 2025 schedule!

Physics in Nature (completed 4/9)

Through practical experiments & group participation, we will experience various physical forces, and learn about how they occur in nature. This class is interactive and a lot of fun!

Animal Strategies (completed 5/14)

Students will learn about local animals and how they survive in their environments. Through the use of mounted specimens, the students will observe the physical features of these animals.

Reptiles Alive! (completed 6/11)

Our scaly and slimy wildlife is often misunderstood. Learn all about reptiles and amphibians as we meet a few live animal friends. Students will get to see and touch native turtles and snakes as we learn how these reptiles survive.

NJ Black Bears (completed 9/11)

Did you know the Black Bear is the largest mammal in NJ? And that they can run up to 35 miles per hour? Learn all about this beautiful creature in this lecture and slideshow presentation. This course is for kids ages 5+.

Stargazing (completed 10/4)

Join us for a night of gazing into the heavens (sky permitting). We will look for and at neighboring planets and the Moon. Our remaining time will be used to view the seasonal constellations and other sky features. This course is for kids aged 8+, with a max capacity of 15 participants.

Owls of Hunterdon (completed 11/22)

Owls can be found in Hunterdon County and throughout New Jersey. Along with facts about each species of owl, come hear the calls of these species as we walk through nature at Finn Park. This course is for kids aged 8+, with a max capacity of 20 participants. Note – parents should make sure their children are comfortable with darkness for this class.

How do I register?

We have a rolling registration for each of these Nature Series programs. Registration will open approximately 3 weeks in advance of the class, and be filled on a first come, first serve basis.

Type in “Union Township Hampton NJ, NJ” for organization and select it from the drop down, make an account if needed, and then sign up as warranted. Once logged in/account made, look for the orange “register now” button. Click it and select the weeks you’re interested in and go from there.
